OB/GYN Coding Specialist
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented OB/GYN Coding Specialist to join our remote coding team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience coding for Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Women’s Health, including primary care services, preventative services, psychiatric and nurse practitioner visits, surgical procedures, and global maternity packages. This position requires a coder who is resourceful, organized, and driven to maintain high accuracy and compliance standards.
- Minimum 5 years of physician-based coding experience, with a strong background in OB/GYN and related women’s health services
- Proficiency in coding E/M (Evaluation & Management) services for primary care, psychiatry, and nurse practitioner visits
- Demonstrated experience coding OB global packages, deliveries, gynecologic surgeries, and related procedures
- Comprehensive understanding of OB/GYN terminology, anatomy, and physiology
- Knowledge of payer-specific billing guidelines and global obstetric package rules
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Detail-oriented, deadline-driven, and able to manage multiple priorities efficiently
- Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, multiple EHRs, and internet research)
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced remote environment
- Athena experience preferred
- Accurately assign CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS codes for OB/GYN services including:
- Obstetric care: prenatal, antepartum, delivery, postpartum, and global packages
- Gynecologic surgeries: hysterectomy, laparoscopy, endometrial ablation, etc.
- Primary care and preventive visits: well-woman exams, preventative visits, annual wellness visits, screenings, immunizations
- Psychiatry and behavioral health visits related to perinatal and women’s mental health
- Nurse practitioner and physician E/M encounters
- Validate documentation for compliance with CPT, ICD-10-CM, and payer guidelines
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding changes and payer regulations
- Meet and maintain department productivity and quality standards
- Protect the confidentiality and security of all protected health information (PHI) in compliance with HIPAA
- Collaborate with providers and billing staff to resolve documentation and coding discrepancies
- CPC or CCS-P required
- COBGC (Certified Obstetrics and Gynecology Coder) strongly preferred
- CPMA, CEMC, or CGIC certifications are a plus
- Deep understanding of women’s health coding, including preventive, surgical, and global maternity services
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Self-motivated, reliable, and committed to accuracy and compliance
